Swedish fund sets sights on venture capital ‘blind spots’

The Financial Times on BackingMinds, the Swedish fund backing early-stage founders, sectors and customers that traditional venture capital overlooks.

In June 2021, the Financial Times profiled BackingMinds, the Stockholm-based fund that looks for opportunities where traditional venture capital rarely looks. BackingMinds invests in early-stage startups whose founders, sectors or customers tend to be overlooked by other investors. That could be a company started by a woman or an immigrant, or one based outside the capital cities, or one serving a customer group others have ignored. Sara Wimmercranz and Susanne Najafi founded BackingMinds in 2016 on the belief that these blind spots are not only a fairness problem but an investment opportunity.
